- We’re Rolling Out A New Callout Module and Quote Module Today

You may remember lensmaster kasman from his recent Lens of the Day. We thought you might like to know a little bit more about him. You already know that he’s from Scotland and writes mostly about his home country. See what else you can learn from our interview, then don’t forget to check out the rest of his lenses.
What brought you to Squidoo? I stumbled across Squidoo when I was idly surfing the net one evening looking for something constructive to do online. I was very impressed by the professional look of the lenses I looked at – some other blogs I had been visiting were a poor show in comparison. It didn’t take me long to realise that this was what I had been looking for – a place to stretch my wings and fly! I used to work in the composing room of a provincial newspaper, hot metal, originally (if that means anything to anyone these days) and then with early versions of wysiwyg terminals so I have always had an interest in the printed word.
Your lenses all (or at least most) focus on something about your home country of Scotland. Any plans to vary from that niche? What topics can we look forward to reading in the near future? The first rule of writing is ‘write what you know’. I know Scotland and its beautiful places well. Many have already been covered on Squidoo and there is no point in going over old ground but not much has been written about Scotland’s hills which is hardly surprising since you have to get out of your car and seek them out, so that is what I chose to concentrate on at first.
What can Squidoo do for you? As a newcomer to both Squidoo and the internet. Squidoo can help me by keeping on doing what it is already doing – providing somewhere I can let my fingers do the talking and let me build my experience of writing and the internet with a view of perhaps going further and possibly making a living (or at least some income) writing on the net.

Please note that these two modules are not quite live yet. They will be rolling out today so please be on the look out for them soon.
The Callout module is a great way to showcase a block of text with a title. The Callout module incorporates three of our existing modules (“StickyNote”, “Blackbox” and “The Most Important Thing”) and introduces several new styles to the mix.
What happens to existing ”StickyNote”, “Blackbox” and “The Most Important Thing” modules? We’re glad you asked! You’ll be converted to the new Callout Module with the same design. This new update will allow you to change those modules with the new styles.
The Quote module is designed specifically to highlight your favorite quotes and their authors. The existing “Talk Bubble” module is now one of the style options for the Quote module.
What happens to existing ”Talk Bubble” module? Your Talk Bubble will now be a Quote Module that you can edit with the new styles.
Both modules allow for text up to 500 characters in length and you can style both with the new designs and colors.
We’ve also improved the editing experience. Color variations were always available on the “Blackbox” module, which is why that style is now called (more appropriately) “Colorbox”. One thing we want to point out here is that existing Blackbox modules with the Lens Theme color selected may have a slightly altered display that is consistent with the new design. We did our best to minimize changes and hope that you’ll find the new options as appealing as we do.
This is what the workshop editor looks like for the new Callout Module. As you can see there are new style and color options.
This is what the workshop editor looks like for the new Quote Module. Again there are new style and color options.
So do try out both of these modules. We think you’ll have a great deal of fun trying on the new styles.
Here are some Callout style examples:
