Get Cozy: Inspire Others With Just One Decorating Change You’ve Made

Posted: 31 Dec 2013 04:00 AM PST

3935890512_246efb4c2f_oHey there. Stick with me. This gets really good. Really soon.

Have you ever seen the movie The Big Lebowski?

It doesn’t matter if you have or haven’t. But there’s one, very silly, line that has stayed with me. It’s about a rug.

A stolen rug.

A rug “that really tied the room together,” as MANY characters note throughout the film. (That’s the rug you see to the left.)

Now, think about it.

And start thinking about our home decor magazine, Cozy.

Do you have a rug that really ties the room together? What would you do without it, or the super-special candle, centerpiece, or set of curtains that appears each winter to add an extra bit of coziness to your main room? What would you do without those super-soft, warm, lovely blankets that only leave your couch to be laundered?

What was it like before those little, comforting things entered your life?

Tell us. Take photos of your favorite decorative item(s.) Explain how it (or they) became part of your daily life.

Let readers know how just moving one thing — ONE thing, like that storied Lebowski rug — into a room can make all the difference in the world. It can mark the beginning of a transformation — from common to cozy.

We want to share the transformations you’ve made with the world — and we’re offering BIG benefits for doing so (including some prime “real estate” in Cozy.) All the details are in the Cozy: Move One Thing quest. Check it out. Make a great lens (or two, or three, or more) about your favorite things in your home and how they define the spaces in which you live. The changes can be as simple as finding some shelves and boxes to define a larger space while providing storage — like you’ll see here.

Let us, and every aspiring decorator/homeowner out there, know about all those little things that really can tie a room together. Have fun. We can’t wait to see what you have to share!

Review of the Day: Crop in Style Rolling Scrapbook Tote

Screen Shot 2013-12-29 at 8.13.18 AMI was an avid scrapbooker many years ago. I enjoyed creating scrapbook layouts and albums for my kids and would scrap well into the night. Then life got in the way of my hobby and my interest waned, so I stopped scrapbooking altogether. While I can’t believe it was that long, I hadn’t scrapping for close to nine years. This means that not only were my daughter’s albums way behind, but I had not even started an album for my son who is my youngest.

What is your favorite holiday tradition?
The Season of Advent, and lighting our Advent Wreath.

What’s your favorite holiday food?
I have to pick just ONE??? I like making cookies, fudge and BIG dinners. I like to EAT gingerbread, candy canes and chocolate. Turkey and prime rib are both given factors in this equation.

What do you love most about the season?
Being with my family and friends, and doing special things to make them smile.

What is your favorite childhood holiday memory?
My first *real* Christmas Party when I was 8 years old. Fun people, good food and good times. I think I got a set of Old Maid playing cards.

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas?
Not where we live, we have plenty of COLD, tuhle fog, and rain, but we are too close to sea level for snow.
