What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Setting up the Nativity. It is a tradition in my family for generations so it is very important to me. I still have the same Nativity my parents used my entire life, so it means the world to me.

What’s your favorite holiday food?
Fruitcake, and no, I’m not crazy. Here it is often hard to find or super expensive so it is a rare treat for the holidays. Any recipe so old it used to be put in the tombs of Egyptian kings has to be good.

What do you love most about the season?
The snow! We rarely get snow exactly on Christmas, so any snowy day from Thanksgiving to Russian Christmas is always treasured.

What is your favorite childhood holiday memory?
Making cookies and wrapping presents with my mom. It wasn’t the money involved it was the show of love and family traditions that mattered.

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas?
Yes! Don’t tell me I’m too old, I want a snowman then hot coco stat!

Product Review of the Day: The Baby Brezza Pro One: The Easy Way to Mix and Heat Formula

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 05:14 AM PST

Screen Shot 2013-12-10 at 8.09.28 PMLong gone are the days when a mom (or dad) had to warm baby formula on the stove-top, poking a finger in the liquid every so often to test the temperature. It seemed as though it took forever to heat, especially when the baby was crying (which was almost always).

What is your favorite holiday tradition?
We travel to my brothers house in Suffolk UK and go dog walking around Flatford Mill where John Constable painted the Haywain.

What’s your favorite holiday food?
Colston Bassett Stilton cheese which is made in the village which lies 5 miles from our home. There are only five dairies in the UK licensed to make Stilton and two of them are in my home county of Nottinghamshire near to where I live in Upper Saxondale.

What do you love most about the season?
Meeting up with old friends and family and laughing all the time. I also have a family reputation for sleeping a lot too.

What is your favorite childhood holiday memory?
Helping my mum set up the Xmas tree which had fluid filled coloured ornaments that bubbled when the lamp inside them was on.

Oh yes.

What is your favorite holiday tradition?
For the past 31 Christmases Santa has brought me between $25.00 and $50.00 in scratch lottery tickets and placed them into my stocking. I so look forward to this treat each holiday season and would be very disappointed if I didn’t receive them. So far Santa has come through without fail each and every year. Thanks Santa.

What’s your favorite holiday food?
We could skip the bird but I absolutely positively love turkey stuffing and would probably cry if it didn’t show up on our holiday table at Christmas.

What do you love most about the season?
The lights, the decorations, the sound of excited kids and the music of the Christmas season give me a warm glow throughout my entire body. I smile every time I drive through our town or walk through the mall. It is the sights and sounds of the Christmas season that I really enjoy the very most.

What is your favorite childhood holiday memory?
My dad was a big kid at heart and he made Christmas as wonderful as he could for myself and my siblings. I can still see him searching around, under, and throughout the tree to see if he had by chance missed any presents to hand out.

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas?
It is definitely a white Christmas outside of my window. A beautiful winter wonderland and I love it.

Squid Don’t Policy Update

Posted: 10 Dec 2013 11:13 AM PST

Screen Shot 2013-11-17 at 4.12.51 PMWe just added a new section to our SquidDon’t policy. The best way to describe the new SquidDon’t is: mundane (or everyday) products that are similar in design.

We’re seeing an influx of lenses about shower curtains, tablecloths, garbage bags, cotton balls, etc. These are topics that have produced spam in the past and while not every lens about shower curtains in spam we’ve decided to make these and similar products a SquidDon’t to improve the overall health of the site. We did this last  year with coloring pages because they started to take over the site in mass quantity. The same thing is happening with shower curtain lenses. Unfortunately there are certain topics that encourage spam on the web like Acai Berry, weight loss and making money from home. Shower curtain lenses (and similar products) are now in this category.

Here’s a bit more of an explanation. The purpose of Squidoo is to create lenses that enrich, entertain, review, recommend and add value to the web. It’s easy to do that with things like books, movies, music, collectibles, games, gadgets, and unique products like this, this and this.

The problem with shower curtains (and other similar products) is that they are the same item only in different colors. So what we’re seeing are lenses about pink shower curtains, Halloween shower curtains, woodland creature shower curtains, etc. These are the lenses we’re locking under this new SquidDon’t policy. If your lens is locked under this new policy you will receive the royalties owed as explained here: What happens to the royalties on my lens when it gets locked?

It is OK to create a quality lens about Star Trek Gifts that’s includes a Star Trek shower curtain however to just create lens after lens about every shower curtain style on the market is now what we’re calling a SquidDon’t.

This is a site wide policy that will affect both Giants and non-Giants.
