What is your favorite holiday tradition?
I love making hand made cards, ornaments and other craft projects for gifts and to decorate my own home.

What’s your favorite holiday food?
I love it all. Christmas pudding might be my favorite, though.

What do you love most about the season?
The beauty of the lights and decorations and the way most people are pleasant and joyous.

What is your favorite childhood holiday memory?
Putting up the Christmas tree. I still remember the special little ornaments that thrilled me when I as a kid.

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas?
I came from a region where Christmases were always white, and very cold. Now I live in Vancouver. White Christmases are rare here. However, today, as I write this, it is snowing and so yes, I am dreaming of a white Christmas.

Product Review of the Day: My Review of P.D. Eastman’s Children’s Book ‘Are You My Mother’

Posted: 12 Dec 2013 05:09 AM PST

Screen Shot 2013-12-11 at 6.57.11 PMOn my 4th birthday, my Mom, Gertie, gave me a hardback copy of P.D. Eastman’s book ‘Are You My Mother.’ Although I have few memories of those early years (except a traumatic hospitalization when I was 2), I clearly remember the many nights I’d sit upon my Mom’s lap while she read to me. I can still hear the inflection in her voice as she read the pages, using different voices for the different characters.

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 03:50 PM PST

Screen Shot 2013-12-11 at 6.48.00 PMWhat is your favorite holiday tradition?
My little brother and I share who will host Thanksgiving and Christmas. We live about 2 hours from one another, and I love the drive to his home. I feel so much like its an “over the river and through the woods” moment, mainly because we have to travel through so many farms to get there. I like that on some occasions I get to cook and fuss, and then the next year I relax. I think that I get the best of both because we do this.

What’s your favorite holiday food?
At Thanksgiving, its the turkey and all the fixings. Its the only time of year that I get that particular combination. At Christmas, its roast beef. We cook up a big roast with mashed potatoes and gravy. Super awesome comfort food that winds down the holiday perfectly.

What do you love most about the season?
Thanksgiving is wonderful just because we are all together, and the only stress was whether to have 2 or 3 pies for dessert. Christmas is the music. Certain songs bring back memories of people that are no longer with us, and places that I have lived before. It reminds me of my son when he was 2 years old and was singing Rudolph at the top of his lungs. And Silent Night is Midnight Mass with all of us singing and lighting candles.

What is your favorite childhood holiday memory?
My favorite memory is of my brothers and me getting up at 3:00 am to sneak down and look at the tree and the presents. We weren’t allowed to be up but we couldn’t wait to see what was under the tree.

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas?
Always!! I grew up in NY and it seems rare that we didn’t have snow at Christmas. Plus, my favorite movie is “White Christmas” So I might as well continue the theme!

Holiday Gift Ideas for Coworkers

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 11:08 AM PST

striped elephant by renemensen on flickr via creative commonsHelp! My husband works with a small group of people who love to exchange Christmas gifts every year – and we need ideas!

He can count on receiving a(nother) scented candle this year and probably a(nother) calendar and (for sure) more homemade cookies and candy. The coworkers have those covered. My mission? Finding a useful alternative gift that everyone can use, but something that won’t break the bank.

Suggestions? Post your new or existing lenses with original gift ideas for coworkers right here, in a comment below, for everyone to see.

No white elephants (or striped ones), please. :)
